How can I dissable the "Network Password" to prevent it from popping up on bootup? I'm the only one using my computer & there is no password entered, but the window keeps askin' for my password.

| Lots of luck. I had a friend that wanted to delete it. I went to the Microsoft support site and got the directions for removing the logon. I did what the directions said and it still came up on his screen??? [This message was edited by Jack Stoner on 08 August 2001 at 04:12 PM.] |

Joe-- Presuming this is a Win9x machine,
Using Windows Explorer, open your Windows folder and click the 'Tool' tab near the top of the screen. Do a 'Find' for files named *.pwl in that folder only.
You should get at least one file (with the network name as the first part of the file name). Rename that file to something you'll remember (in case you wish to later reinstate it). Restart Windows.
When the machine reboots and asks for a user name/password, JUST HIT ENTER to continue booting up. If you hit ESC/CANCEL, you'll end up with you're problem again.
There are other ways to get rid of the password but try this first. -- Everett

OK! I already have it configured to hit "Enter" when the password window appears.
Is there a way to eliminate the password window completely, so the computer will complete the boot up sequence.
Or is it impossible, like Jack mentioned.
Win95 booted up without having the password window appear.

| Everett, deleting all of the *.pwl files does not always work. That is Microsoft's solution to getting rid of the logon but it didn't work on two different PC's that I tried. |

If you need it, yes.
I'm using just plain ol' MS Family Logon. Somehow, MS Client for Network got installed once, and I started having that problem. Once I got rid of it, problem resolved.
I'm not running a true network, though I do have a wireless connection from my cable modem via a router to this PC and my laptop.

Thanks a million Jim. Now I can turn the computer on and it will complete the bootup with out me there.
