First off I want to thank all the guys who pointed me in the right direction and gave me very good advice.
Today I had a new soundcard installed but it wasn't SOUNDBLASTER, here's why.
Last Saturday I went to COMP USA and had a $200.00 Platinum Live SOUNDBLASTER 5.1. card installed. BUT disaster struck, the computer tech person could not get the program to install and could not get my computer to boot up. He tried everything in the book, no luck. It's a 1999 COMPAQ with 15 GB and 450 MHz and 64 RAM model #5716. For some strange reason the computer would not take it. So out the store I went minus a soundcard.
The next solution I came up with is my second older 1998 COMPAQ #4550 which is in my music room (the newer Compaq is in another bedroom isolated from my music room) was the choice I would have to go with even though it's only 4GB, 48 Ram and 233hrz, I decided to have a soundcard install the older model. All week long I was in the Internet examining CREATIVE LAB Soundblaster cards and I had to illuminate all the new cards that they had to offer because of the Ram requirements, PLATINUM, LIVE MP+3 5.1, LIVE MP3+ were all out of the question. This was verified by the COMP USA tech who advised me that these Soundblaster cards would not function right inside my PC which by the way still has Window 95 installed.
COMP USA had about 7 different other soundcards for sale, the one the tech person pointed me to was the YAMAHA YMF744 DPS processor. The card is a FORTISSMO 4 channel digital soundboard (produced by, GUILLEMOT). The card has a YAMAHA XG built-in synthesizer with 2MB midi. Only problem was the cost of the card, which came to $49.99.
I also purchased a set of 5 surround sound speakers by ALTEC LANSING.
Now the best was yet to come. After I got home and set everything up I powered the PC & soundcard and WOW..................... like I got Carnige hall in my bedroom, four hours of non-stop music blasting, totally awesome sound. BIAB sound sounds 100% better and my Midi C&W Internet downloads (ROLAND VSC88) sounds great. Each instrument sounds like it suppose to and the speakers system even vibrates my entire computer table.
So all ends very well for my search for a soundcard. Again guys thanks,
KEN
