File Paths

I noticed this question was answered in Dana's thread about images but here's my response, too.

The correct file path form for links should contain only forward slashes ( / ), not backslashes ( \ ).

In the case of Dana's pics, http://members.aol.com/dduplan/stringmaster1.jpg works.
http://members.aol.com\dduplan\stringmaster1.jpg does not.<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Mark Herrick on 13 June 2000 at 10:22 PM.]</p></FONT>

I hate to get nitpicky, but hey, that's what computers are about, no?

What you stated is true regarding "URLs", but the opposite is true of file paths.

URL --> "////" Yes

File Path --> "\\\\" Yes

So the nit picky part is that the examples that you gave are not "file paths" but "URLs".

So why don't they do 'em the same way?

Hey, I don't mind nitpickin', but as long as we are Image , the backslash (\) is apparently a DOS convention for file paths. In UNIX a forward slash (/) is used.

You say potato, I say...

It would be sacreligious for Dos to have done it the same way as Unix.

Now if we did the same thing on the road, us Nissan owners wouldn't be allowed on the "Lincoln's only" highway.
