It really is designed for 6 string.
The speaker and pre-amp needs to be
voiced for steel.

FWIW,one of the guys I play with has one for six string and my impression is that it would be really dry and brittle sounding for pedal steel. I assume they all have the 12 inch 'Scorpion' speaker which probably isn't an ideal choice for steel either.

Edited to add: Oops...you're talking about a Studio Pro. I thought you were referring to one of the old 'Special 112' Peaveys that pack 160 watts.

Does yours have the Blue Marvel speaker ? I just picked up a 3 month old studio pro and the reverb tank was dead.I took the tank out of my Nash 112 to try and the amp sounds pretty good, atleast good enough for practice.

You are referring to the Peavey Special 112? Let me state this.............any amp can be used for steel guitar applications. However, through our 30 plus years of designing and manufacturing steel amplifiers, there are certain characteristics that work best for steel guitar. Check out the Peavey Nashville Series here;
