Topic: Fender Steel King? |

I'm ready to plop down my money on a new FENDER STEEL KING amp. However, I'd like some feedback from those who use this amp regularly or have at least test drove one.
I'll be using the amp for my Sho-Bud LDG.
I've currently tried using an old Traynor keyboard amp (Blok110K) that I had lying around, but the LDG sounds terrible through it. Very "honky" (like playing into a metal coffee can) in the mid range, and "muddy" in the low end. (I can't stand that mid-range honk!) There's no clarity or definition.
I was thinking of the new Peavey Nashville 112, and although I like the features, it doesn't have enough power for my use. The STEEL KING has the power (and features) that'll work well for me.

Thanks for the reply.
I attempted a search here and under a couple of different forum headers and hadn't really come up with too much on the Steel King. Just a brief mention here or there. I tried several search titles and criteria. I would've thought that I would found "tons" of discussion about the Steel King.
Regardless, thanks much for the feedback. So far, I really haven't heard anything negative about the Steel King.

| There is a Forumite that posts occasionally that owns (2) Evans a Webb 614-E and a Fender steel King and he invited me to his house after he had a chance to compare the amps and the FSK simply easily out did all the others. My second choice would have been the Evans large cabinet SE-200 but the FSK ate it's lunch too. He is Wayne Wallett and a very accomplished steeler. If you need info he would be great source. Mark, I have two of the FSK and in all the years I have been playing, I can truthfully say that ,for me, they are the best I've ever used. I keep one in the studio and one for playing out. Occasionally I will play thru both of the if the area is big enough. Great amps - you just can't go wrong with them - heavy, great muscle builders for us older folks.

| The first time that I heard a FSK it was none other than Jay Dee Maness playing through it-Of course JDM sounds great anytime but I was inspired enough by what I heard to buy one-I confess I have not used mine much since-I have been using my Fender '65 Twin Custom 15" much more than the FSK-They weigh about the same-HEAVY-I have had the FSK "crap out" on me (break up on bass notes) when playing the low strings on the C6TH neck at a moderately loud volume(don't happen with my Evans FET-500) If you are mostly an E9TH player the FSK would probably fit your needs just fine as long as you don't mind the weight of it-some earlier mentioned threads have talked of replacing the stock speaker with a Peavey Black Widow [This message was edited by PAUL WARNIK on 17 November 2006 at 04:14 AM.] |

Allright. I'm convinced. I'm going with the Steel King.
Just my luck!...
So, being all excited about getting one, I call the local dealer that had one, only to find that he sold it. Last one in stock. Of course, he can order one for me.
I then proceed to call 16 authorized Fender amp dealers - all between Erie, PA and Rochester, NY - nothing in stock.
Anybody have any ideas where I might find one of these amps? Of course, it has to be within the reasonable price range of the Steel Kings. Feel free to email me at: markt@applerubber.com

Mark, if you have not found one yet, give Ashley Music in Harrison, AR a call (1-870-741-8315), ask for Hugh Ashley, tell him that I gave you the info. I just talked to him via. phone and he has one in stock. Hugh is one of the best and will treat you right.

Paul, I'm like you.... I was set to buy a FSK, but decided (after talking to Bobby Seymore) to get the Fender '65 Twin Custom 15. I don't see many others posting about the reissue '65 amp, but boy do I get the compliments on mine when I play. I love this tube amp, and the 3 peaveys I own stay home when I need to fill a hall.

Daddy's Junky Music in Nashua NH has a used one for $599. They will send it to a store nearer you if you'd like to go try it. I see they have stores in Albany, Syracuse, and Rochester: any of those close to you?

My new Steel King is on the way! Thanks to Bobbe Seymour - Steel Guitar Nashville.
I did my homework on these amps and just as he always claims, Bobbe absolutely did have the BEST price on these amps! Not only that, since I'd previously purchased from Steel Guitar Nashville, all of my info was on file and therefore, the entire transaction took all of about 50 seconds! Nice and hassel free - just the way I like it!
According to FedEx it's schedualed to arrive Saturday - which would be perfect since I'd be able to try it out on the gig I'm playing Saturday night.
Thanks again to all for the advice and feedback, and Bobbe Seymour for the great price and service!

. I got mine used for $550 from someone who tried it briefly then decided to sell it at a loss. The only other combo amp that comes close to this that I've owned is the Webb 6-14-E. Listen to the sound samples on my site below if you want to hear it up close.
