I'm really enjoying my MV 500 PV 112e setup.
I've been running the volume levels at around 3 o'clock and presence 1/2 way (5).
Is the presence a cut or boost circuit?
I noticed that the left pot was scratchy and not as loud as the right channel unless I wiggled it around. Is there a way to clean the pots?
thx

I bought a MV500 several years ago and all the pots were scratchy. I tried cleaning them and it only helped for a little while. I contacted Genz Benz and got 4 new ones and replaced them all - the only way to permanently fix it.
I don't use the Presence control on mine. I keep it at zero. I set the volume controls about 10 O'clock and it's loud. |

That is just about the only drawback to the Tube Works stuff, their pots.
However, on the bright side, they can be replaced very economically by ordering new ones from Genz Benz. |

Thanks,
I still would like to know if the presence is a cut or boost?
The 500 doesn't seem as powerful as when I ran into 2 combo amps (session 400, Evans large cab)
Granted, I was running double preamps (Roland GP-100 into front of combos)
The output on the Roland is +4db in both applications and the Roland output and patch master levels are a lot higher with the MV than with the 2 combos. I'm feeding 2 PV 112e speakers with the MV vs. 2 15's with the combo amps.
How much are the pots?
thx

I don't remember how much the pots were, you'll have to call Genz Benz.
The manual states:
+15db at 10 Khz Response is Flat with Control set at minium
From that I would conclude it's a boost.
I run my MV500 into two Nashville 112E enclosure clones with BW 1203-8 (8 ohm) speakers and it's still LOUD. |

That would be typical of most presence controls that it is a boost in the 8 khz to 15 khz range. |

What preamp, Jack?
When you say loud, do you mean playing with a full band?

I think Jack uses a Tubefex as a preamp. I know that when I was using a Mosvalve 500 with a Roland GP-100, I had no problem with volume. I was using two BW 1501-4's with the system.

I'm using a Rocktron "Sidewinder" preamp. I did have a TransTube Fex at one time but not a TubeFex. The Rocktron is heads over the Transtube Fex for a preamp. I use a T.C. Electronic G-Major as an effects processor in my rack. |
