I have an old Sho-Bud Double 10 with the original split coil tap pickups in it, the E9 pickup dos not have good string seperation to it (no it's not in the right hand) and to much growl to it. I checked it with an ohm meter and the low side reads 11.1 K ohms and the high side reads 21.3 K ohms. I don't like the tone on the high side, it has a little to much bottom end. What would your recomendations be for a new split coil tap TrueTone be?

Colby, get in touch with Jerry Wallace tell him the sound you are looking for and he'll wind the pickup to your liking. I love True Tone pickups and Jerry is a great guy to deal with.

I've always thought that 11k and 15k would be a good combination. Once you get above about 15k or 16k, you start to loose some of the dynamics and clarity that single-coils are known for.

If you're using a single coil up in the 20k range, you might just as well use a humbucker.

I have a TT in my sho bud at 16.5 and 11K. I think I like a different sound than most as I play the 11k postion almost all of the time. The higher wind just seems less clear. I order a new TT for a different guitar and had it wound to 14K and 11K. I wanted to be able to use the two choices more often in a song kind of like a volume kick for a lead. With the pickups set at 14 and 11 there isn't such a drastic difference when changing between them in a song so it feels mroe usable in that way. Thats me though. I know a lot of peopel don't like the 11K. I happen to think they always run thier volume for the 16K oir higher and only try the lower from that volume which will sond weak. I set my volue with the 11K.
