I have been using a George Dennis Optical (mono) volume pedal for some time now, and it has proven to be quite reliable - has a nice smooth operation and seems to retain a good clean tone at all volume levels - I notice very little tone difference when comparing my steel (Carter-Starter) using the pedal or plugged direct into the amp (Sho-Bud "Christmas tree") This pedal is made in the Czech Republic, and is very reasonably priced - around $130.00 for the mono model.
I am wondering if any one else has used these pedals, and how they compare to other volume pedals on the market. |

I have one - the "Ping Pong" that also has variable trem. I tried it and it worked great for steel, but was too tall for my long legs...otherwise it's probably the one I would use. |

John I never plug direct into the amp, and by the looks of the volume pedals they seem to favor one standing upright, I had something like that and I got a goodrich and it was tough at first to get use to but I wish I had it sooner. |

More on the Ping-pong....
When I was playing guitar it was an essential part of my rig. First, the volume pedal part was dead quiet and had a smooth action. Very comfortable.
The trem was the "hook". You engaged a silent-switch, and hving preset the speed, by using the pedal you could vary the amount of trem that was mixed in with the dry signal. In mono it was fun -in stereo it was nothing short of astounding. And the trem was not the Fender blackface "on-off" trem...it was more like the brownface Princeton, where the trem "swells" in and out with no abrupt changes. Just a great sound.
I have no idea how their other effect/volume pedals sound...but this one may make it back to my rig when I get a lift kit installed on my GFI.[This message was edited by Jim Sliff on 10 October 2006 at 08:48 PM.] |

The one I owned (Volume/Trem) had a VERY low self-noise floor, but sucked out the mids and bottom end pretty badly. YMMV. |

Twayne, it sounds like a defective pedal. Mine is tonally neutral with guitar or steel. |
