Does anyone make or know how hard would it be for me to make a plug in tone control? I have a MCI without a tone control and would like to try one on that guitar. Is that even possible? Anyone have a drawings of what I would need to build? Anyone know if someone makes/sells such a thing? Thanks for the help.

Kenny, you should give this some more serious thought. You might be better off acquiring a Goodrich 7a Match Box and go from there. Lots of folks use them.

Kenny, I just made a standalone tone/volume control for my pedal steel. I basically copied the F****r Strat/tele design and put it in a plastic box. I have two jacks, 1 goes to the guitar, the other goes to the amp/volume pedal/effects box/whatever. It works just like the F****r tone control as a high cut. I got the parts from my local guitar shop and radio shack. It required a drill, soldering iron and side cutters.

The Emmons tone control and bypass switch is ideal to copy. I don't have the Emmons schematic but I'm sure someone on here does.

It can be built into a small aluminum "mini box".

I make volume & tone control boxes that plug directly into the Output~Jack of the PSG. All you need is (1)-Plastic Project~Box, (1)-¼” phone~plug, (1)-¼” Mono-Jack and (2)-500K Audio or Linear Pots with (1)-.047uF cap.! Plug the Project~Box into the PSG and run the Output~Jack to your volume-pedal. You can also incooperate a by~pass Mini~Toggle for the Tone~Pot or for both pots. Actually, I don't see the necessity for a volume~control, if you're using a volume~pedal!

John, I would think a metal project box would be better. For sheilding and longevity??? Yes or no?

It doesn't matter to me if it's Plastic or Metal! I'll use whatever the customer requests. I use Plastic for myself and have never had a problem with ‘Hum’! Plugging directly into the Guitar-Output~Jack requires only a minimul amount of additional wire and the Plug is directly grounded to the guitar and only a max. of 3” of additional unshielded wire inside the box. And then the cable is still shielded from the box to the volume~pedal! (besides that, black~plastic is prettier!)
