If the amp has no problems, it is definitely a GREAT deal.

I guess I better prepare for the flames. At that price I would say take a close look at a Fender Steel King, Peavey Nashville 112 or 400. I had the 500LV and the reverb on it was never right and the tone pretty thin but very clean and powerful if you like that. There are a lot of people who love the 500LV but look around at a few other amps before sinking that much into one of these. I got my Steel King for $550 out the door and my Nashville 112 for $446 out the door and both of these amps have IMHO better reverb and other advantages as well.

That's about what I paid for mine, used, from a shop. Mine was made in Shrieve Port, La, it has a 15" JBL E130, large cabinet. It's a great amp, but it's good advice to try other amps...they're all different. I miss my Rivera for it's overdrive, but it didn't compare the clean tone of the Evans. I have a beater Session 400 with a Fender Steel King 15" speaker, and it sounds great, too, especially when it's cranked. I've had a couple of Nashville 400, and I don't think they sound as good as the Session 400 or the Evans. To me the Evans has a fuller, warmer tone than the Session 400, and the Session 400 is a twangier sounding amp; hence, the Evans seems to compliment my Emmons p/p and the Session 400 seems to compliment my Sho-Bud. The Session 400 makes my Strat sound like a Telecaster, and the Evans makes it sound like a jazz box. The Evans is an awesome standard guitar amp. If you like it, and it’s in good condition, that’s a good price. You can’t go wrong with that amp.

Ditto what Greg said. That Evans has some mileage on it. It may be a great amp. But, it may not...............

Hi Robert, if you get a chance to try the Evans and it sounds good, just go for it. I did a straight swop with a Nashville 112 for an Evans Fet 500lv, and have been so pleased with the result. Mine has the Eclipse speaker too, and was made around 1985. It is the most "Valve" sound tranny amp I've ever used, with loads of power. Most of us use "out" effects as I do too with my Boss Rv3. Evans are great amps in my opinion....and lots of others too :-)

Micky - your Evans projected a very nice clean tone out front when I heard you play last. Stick with it - I don't think you could improve on too much with anything else.

I have always liked the sound of the 500LV model. Although the four I have either owned or played through have all been hissy. Not so bad as to be unusable in a club, but more noise than is acceptable in a studio or quiet stage gig. So if the one you are considering is quiet and sounds good to you. Cool!
