I'd like some feedback (positive or negative)from anyone who is using or has used a Peavey 1502 Black Widow speaker with pedal steel. I'm considering installing one in an '02 Evans SE200 that currently has a stock Fane 8 ohm speaker.

Thanks,

Lynn

The earlier model Nashville 400 came with a 4 ohm 1502. I always liked the sound of them, maybe even better than the 1501. The 1501 does, however, reproduce the highs better.

Lynn, I have a BW1502 in an Evans E200 large enclosure. I sounds GREAT! It's a great match since the Evans usually has a more highs than most amps. Carries the lows good and the highs aren't diminished at all. Everything is very clean even at a pretty high volume. I don't think you will be sorry at all. My Emmons sounds great through it. No complaints at all. For a time I used a Profex ll with it. Personally I liked to plug it into the front of the amp rather than the FX loop. I could tweak it a little better.

Just my comments you requested.

Thank you Bob and Larry,

That's just what I needed to hear. I feel the Evans amp I just bought lacks a little midrange and I have to really cut the high end. I also just learned from Ed at Evans that the effects loop is designed for instrument level, NOT line level, so my Lexicon MX200 won't work at all. I'm also playing an Emmons guitar through it. Mike Brown at Peavey told me yesterday that they did indeed use the 1502 in the NV and Vegas 400 amps at some point in production with good success.

I recently swapped a 1502 and a 1501 in my Session 400..

All I can say is that if it was not for the lable, I would pretty much not know the difference...

Yeh, technically there is a difference, but sonically..?

I guess there is but I couldn't tell...

both are friggen loud and clean...

Tony, you're right. The speakers are just about identical except at the extreme ends of their response. If you're not using these extremes (the very high frequencies, and the very lows), you probably won't notice any difference.

Anyone else with an Evans SE200 using a Peavey 1502 BW?

Thanks,

Lynn
