Hello friends,

I took the plunge a few weeks ago and took possession of a gorgeous black 1969 D-10 Emmons push pull. It has changed just about everything I thought I knew about tone. It came to me with 910s in it, which I really like the sound of, and they are dead quiet even in the RF hell that is NYC, BUT, am I missing out on the real vintage Emmons tone by having these pickups in there?

The seller was kind enough to include the original pickups with this steel, but before I take the trouble of installing them, is it worth it? Or will the increase in hum, outweigh the benefits of the tone of the original pickups?

Thanks for reading my post and offering any insight you all have.

Gerald

Congratulations Gerald! I've got 910's in a Fessy and they work great in that guitar. I tried 710's,Emmons single coils,George L's,Truetones and the 910's are my faveorites. You could always get some Emmons humbuckers for that guitar if you're wanting to have "original" equipment.

It's sort of a trade off. If you like the way
it sounds, then great. But...it's not really
the true vintage Emmons tone. You could always
change just one pickup & see what you think.
You will have a bit more hum in certain situations, but for me it's well worth it!
I don't have any RF problems at all.

The 910's were designed to work with an amplified volume pedal (like the Goodrich or the Hilton). They're a little muddy when you use them with a pot pedal, because of their higher impedance.

You may be right Donnie but I have them in a couple of my guitars (Emmons/Sho Buds/MSAs) and use the Goodrich 120 and they sound great.
