Resophonic Rodeo

Post by Ollin Landers »

I just rejoined the forum after a lay off of about 2yrs. (been playing a solo acoustic gig). I forgot my password and sent Bobbe $12 for the "resophonic rodeo" cd to rejoin. I am knocked out. I've been a big fan of Mike Auldridges 8 string swing, "resophonic rodeo" is hot western swing on any steel, but on a resonator guitar its just superb. I'm a reso player turned steel guitarist and may be partial but I think not.

I highly recomend it to anyone who has not bought it yet...... just my $.02

I will second Ollin's opinion. Gary Morse is a scary player. His chops are amazing, yes, but it's his melodic invention on those western swing chestnuts that makes RESOPHONIC RODEO such a great CD.
I've been using a GBEGBD tuning on lap steel and Dobro for 20 years, but needless to say, this CD is making me dig deep and practice!!!

Any fan of resonator guitars should have this CD in their collection. Usually, I find the "Dobro" to be either hardcore bluegrass or virtuosos such as Rob Ickes & Jerry Douglas taking it into jazz/fusion/new age music. Gary Morse has found a great middle ground and his playing is exciting, flawless, and yes, scary because he is so good. His use of Dobro, steel, and Hawaiian technique applied to G6 7 string is edge of your seat listening. And....songs that we are all familiar with yet it's almost like hearing them for the first time again. Love it!<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by HowardR on 14 April 2002 at 04:39 PM.]</p></FONT>

Totally agreed on all points - excellent CD.
This guy can play, and has a style all his own - try to follow some of those licks - whoa!

FYI, so happens I wound up with two of these (bought one, and received one as a gift - such timimg), so, for anyone thinking of picking this one up, I'll send you my extra for $10 including postage.
