I use the Dan-Electro Dan-Echo stomp box. Has a good sound and tries to replicate the tape delays of years gone by. I think Dan-Electro made another unit called the "Reel-Echo" that was even better.

I suggest that this is a good topic for the 'Electronics' section of the Forum.

I use 2 Dan-Echo's and have for several years now. Prior to that I used a Roland Space Echo for about 30 years. I find the Dan-Echo very good, for my use anyway.

You will find everyone has their favorite effects units. And what sounds good with one player's style and their guitar/amp/volume pedal may not sound the same with someone else's playing and equipment.

Go to a music store that will allow you to set up your steel and amp and start trying units. Many music stores have a return policy and even what sounds good in the store may not sound that way at home or on stage.
