On a thread about Groove Tubes, Keith Cordell suggested to me some things to improve the sound of my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I may still take his advice, and the improvement in the sound of my Blues Junior with new JJ Eurotobes was striking.

What I did instead was put a little money into my '74 Silverface Twin Reverb: replaced some bad caps, new SED winged C power tubes (made by Svetlana), rebias, etc. Sounds gorgeous, with plenty of clean volume for guitar.

The critical components were a new collapsable hand truck with 7 inch wheels, which rolls easily over parking lots and up stairs, and taking a cue from bandmate John Russell, master of velcro and webbing - a strap that goes around the belly of the amp, with a handle on the end of the amp so you can really bring two hands to bear.

I have bought two new amps trying to get a great sound with lighter weight, and what I really needed was a $30 hand truck and a $15 strap.

Leon, i put JJ Teslas in my 65 RI Deluxe and love the way it sounds. Seems like i have more headroom than with the ones that came with the amp. Gives better lows. Thinking about retubing my Twin with them also. Right now my Twin is loaded with 5881's and they are doing alright so far.
Enjoy your Twin. Tonight i was playing my Carter thru the Twin with an Altec 15 and an
EVM 12L. Lots of sweet tones. TJH
