Hi Guys:
Just posting a few pics.
of my pal's new amp. You've
seen the freaky-cool ShoBud
by now, so I figured that the rest
of the equation should be
viewed as well. As most of you
may know already, this creation
is based on a '70s Quad Reverb
chassis. Circuit-wise, it was
spun into an AB763 Twin circuit
along with the usual cap job
and maintenance issues. No
other mods. Power tubes are
a quad of killer-sounding JJ
6L6s. Finding the like-new
4 ohm M-series JBL 15 was a
God-send. All of it slid perfectly
into a set of cabs. made by
Rick Johnson. (The cabinets
are spot-on concerning fit
and constructed with an amazing
amount of quality and detail.
The best I've seen.)
Anyway, I hope that the
pictures post-up ok.
Regards,
Bill Kahle

Thanks Bill! I'm just too computer-stupid to figure out how to post pics. Duh!
Guys, Bill did an amazing job on this amp. It sounds incredible. His attention to detail is second to none. Rick Johnson's cabs are beautiful.
Many thanks! JB |

Those cabs turned out really nice.
I would love to hear them.
Thanks for allowing me the opportunity
to build for you, I realize you had
other options.

I echo Brad's sentiments. A truly beautiful piece of work! The perfect match for your Bud.
Question: I'm getting ready to transplant the brain of my Twin into a Showman Reverb head cabinet I bought recently. How did you mount the reverb pan? It looks like it's mounted to the front panel. I have heard that having the reverb so close to the tubes can cause problems. Have you experienced any? |

Tim
The main concern with the reverb
tanks is to keep it input of the
reverb tank away from the output
tranny. Maybe its the output of
the reverb tank, one way to be
sure is to keep the tank turned
so the reverb tank wires enter
the bag from the opposite side
of the tranny.

This is a GREAT looking rig .....Rick is the man ....His cab's not only look great , but they sound great !!.....He uses a nice Pine board like the old Fender amps, and the cabinet resonates very nicely to add to the tone of his cab's ..The Pine also makes for a nice light cab for you guy's looking to save your back's !!....
What Rick says about the inputs and output's and transformers in reverb unit's is one of the main causes for hum in a lot of cases in any amp with a reverb tank...I had the same issue with many amps with a reverb tank....I turned the tank around , and WALLA !!, no hum or noise !!.....Good you mentioned this Rick .....Sincerely, Jim |
