What's the best way to clean a scratchy pot (other than cover it with fur),in my volume pedal? Should I just replace it or can it be cleaned?

Replace! Cleaning is a short term solution.

The crappy pots they sell these days are a temporary solution, too. If you can clean it, go for it.

Yes Leroy speaks the Truth.
I suggest replacing it with the Omite 500K; as that one seems to be the longest lasting; great sounding Pot out there that is new.

Thanks for the in-put guys. I did take the pot apart and clean it and that helped a bunch but there is a dead spot (almost dead) at the very low end. I can live with that until I get a new one, which is going to be right away. Thanks again

Hey Ricky, where do you find the Omite pots?

by Ray Minich
Correct name is "Ohmite".

Thanks Ray for the correction. Chris I got some from Bobbe Seymour and I also think Al Brisco has the Ohmite??? There was plenty of discussion about this pot and where to get it in the "Electronics" section...>so a quick search might help ya out.

You could try taking off the cover, cleaning the track and replacing the carbon brush. I have friends who have got replacement carbon brushes for Remington electric shavers and use them ( I'm told they are ideal).
I have just bought one of Richard's Canadian pots and it seems well put together and is far quieter than the horrendous pots currently available from Clarostat.
