Larry, while you're waiting for Mike Brown's response I'll just say that I was having the same thing going on with my Session 400 Ltd and the problem turned out to be a bad switching jack. After you remove a plug from a switching jack the contacts are supposed to close to let the signal pass on through but when they get worn or dirty it seems like they don't always close solidly enough. The sound will be barely audible and scratchy and then all of sudden burst through. I almost had kittens the first time that happened...I had cranked the volume up quite a bit. I don't know if that's your problem but it's possible. |

In reference to what Bill is referring to. The Power Amp in and the effects loop Return have the extra "normal through" contact.
The next time it happens try running a guitar cord from the effets out to the effects in. If that doesn't help, do the same thing with the Preamp Out/Power Amp in and see if that one is the problem.
If it's not a jack, check all the pots (volume controls), if one has a bad spot or has been sitting at the same volume position for a long time it can get intermittent.
If it's none of those, Mike can refer you to an authorized Peavey repair or if you don't mind shipping, you can ship it to the Peavey factory repair department. They do excellent work and are reasonable on charges. |

I had an old Session 400 that did the same thing you have described. Being a audio tech, I heard about the switching jack problem, but after looking into it, found that they were fine. The problem was actually an intermittent (cold) solder joint...took a while to find, but solved the problem. |

I recommend that you connect the "loop" between the send and return jacks. Your description sounds as if it is a return jack malfunctioning. However, it may just be a speaker basket hanging up. If this is the case, simply clean out the gap.
If you need to return it to the factory for repair, our address is;
