I'm to where I want a delay unit, and am wondering if anyone has used a Dano unit.
Any other ideas appreciated, but my middle name is 'low budget recording.'
Thanks, Charlie |

I think the Dano Reel Echo is a great low cost tape echo simulator. If you get a chance to try it before buying it, you'll probably be impressed.
Here are the reviews on Harmony Central from users who actually own the item.

Check out the Line 6 DL-4. Digital and analog delays, tape and tube echo simulations, tap tempo, looper, etc. Probably a little more money but worth it. |

Agreed on the Line6,- I have the Line 6 "Echo Park" and it's the first time I've experienced the "yes, this is it" feeling with a delay pedal...

My only gripe with the Reel Echo is that the delay time settings are kind of stepped. I mean that even though it's a slider to set the time, there are only maybe a couple dozen possible delay times. It's not infinitely variable as you'd think by sliding the control. I found this by trying to dial in some tempo-exact settings and the thing was falling either too short or too long, and it just wouldn't go to the exact time I was after. The Line6 delays are real cool.

I used a Roland Space Echo for about 30 years and switched to 2 Dan Echo's. I hook them up in series and set them for the 2 settings I used the most on the Space Echo and I find them just as good if not better then the Space Echo. They are easy to transport and don't take up any room and there is nothing to break or tapes to replace and they just keep on giving me the sound I want. |

Thanks for all the helpful replies.
I have a Zoom 1266 with delays built in, and I haven't started to play with the parameters.
Useful responses for the future.

Charlie:
I use a Danelectro Dan-Echo stomp box. Have been using it since 2000 and I really like it. PRetty close to the tube echo sound in a nice small package. I think Ralph Mooney uses or used the Reel-Echo unit.
I like the little Dan-echo myself. Picked it up at Texarkana Pro-Sound years back.
