Is there a way to tell what's in my '84 Zum? I think the guy I bought it from said it had a Wallace in it, I don't remember for sure. Sorry if it's in the archives, I forgot to search first.

Howard, Jerry Wallace puts his label underneath his pickups. You can remove it and check for a brand. If you can post a closeup photo we might recognize what it is.

Thank you Jerry. I did not want to remove the pick up, since it works now, no telling what would happen if I fooled with it. According to my little meter the resistance is around 17k ohms, if that means anything.

Took the picture, now if I can figure out how to post it. My wife knows but she's working twelve hour shifts for a while so I'm on my own.

On Bruce's pickups, especially an '84 model, the area around the magnets will be completely black. On Jerry Wallace's pickups, he "countersinks" the hole slightly around the magnet and you can see a layer of white next to the magnet.

It could be a Zum or Emmons. They both have that black and white layered top piece. It doesn't look like a True Tone to me though.

I've had the guitar since '86 or '87, my memory must have been wrong. I've given some thought of going to a d-10 and if I sell this one I wouldn't want to misrepresent it. Thanks to all for your help, and for the emails too.

Howard, I am pretty sure thats one of Bruce's stock single coils..Mine and Bruce's look very simular except Randy is correct about the white ring around each magnet where I counter sink it a bit..

Emmons stock single coils have a 90 degree edge on the top plate where mine and Bruce's have a beveled edge.

Also I use a 1/8"{.125"} top plate where both the Zum and Emmons use 3/32" {.093"}

I guess you can trust Jerry Wallace regarding a Wallace pick up. Image It sounds sweet now, I wonder if a TT would brighten the mids for me?
