This model has a screw on chord to the guitar
which is very light. Is there an adapter that would allow me to use a regular guitar chord?
Are the "screw on" ones still available?
I would really like to just set this original aside and keep it in good working order. |

They do exist; I have one for mine. Dunno where you'd look for one though. |

I have one that I purchased from Angela Instruments a while ago for my National New Yorker. It's called a Switchcraft screw-on connector in their online catalog. The cable I bought was 20 feet long and very well made.
I ended up getting a standard guitar connector installed instead. Let me know if you'd like the cable.

Roy: Not surprisingly, this topic has come up a number of times before. The screw-on, or amphonol, connectors are available at better electronic surplus stores, usually for a fraction of the price you'll pay ordering by mail. You can also sometimes find them in music store junk bins. While it's certainly desirable to keep an instrument in original condition, these screw-ons are really a pain, subject as they are to breakage and variable sound quality. I probably have an extra connector lying around if you need one, and I can also pass on what I've learned about the most reliable way to assemble them. email if that's of any use. |

Those screw-ons are nothing but pilikia (trouble!). The center usually wears down and you have no connection. Were it me, I'd convert it to a normal jack. I used to own a NATIONAL double neck, (wish I'd kept it), and it had the screw-on....bad news! |
