Hi
I just got my Msa singlecoil pick up rewound from 14 to about 20.5 kohms, and it sounds great alone. I have before used a Boss Cs2 compressor in front of my volume pedal, but now i guess the pick up has become to "hot" for this stompbox, and it overdrives, and is unusable in front of the volumepedal.. It's ok after though, but I like to have compressor first for some reason.. What is your opinions on this, and where do you guys have your compressors (if you use 'em!).. Maybe on of those Matchbox units i have read about could help me turn the signal down without ruining the sound?
My signal chain is just comp-volumepedal-amp(I use amp reverb) Sometimes a delay stompboxunit after the volumepedal.
Right now I am using peavey transistor amp, but I am waiting on a fender vibroverb clone, and I also wonder how the inputs on that will react with the high pickup signal?
Thanks!
Frode

The most "intuitive" compressor you can use, is your right foot on the volume pedal. It's always an easy temptation to have some electronics clean-up after us, but ultimately it will sound better if you do it yourself. Which is not to say that compressors don't have a place, especially with vocals and drums, but things like compressors, pitch correctors and such, should be a last resort.

If I was going to use a tube amp I wouldn't worry about the compressor. I think they clutter up tube amp signals.

I think a compressor is unnecssary, too! The only time I can see that one might come in handy is if you're playing lap-steel, and not using a volume pedal.

Of course, if you just want to reduce the output of your rewound pickup a little, you might try lowering the pickup. That might help your distortion problem.
