I’m new to this forum, so wanted to introduce myself. I Always loved the sound of lap steel; finally gave in to it and found an old Gibson (EH-185 w/Charley Christian p/u). What a fine instrument! I’m attempting blues in D now, while looking for an 8-string to explore A6 or C6 tunings. Guess you could say the bug has bit, and bit hard.

Two other things. First, a big thank you to everyone on this forum. You’ve been a unique source of information and inspiration. I’m impressed by the openness and generosity here. I have learned so much already (also from Brad’s outstanding site and from the individual sites of many other participants). That’s a gift to a newcomer like myself.

Finally: HowardR, your hospitality is most appreciated.

I contacted Howard after reading an offer he made to the group to stop by and see/play his steels. He was agreeable, so I did. He had 3 outstanding 8-strings in his office (Stringmaster, Sierra, and Melobar), and I had a go. Never touched an 8-string before, but damn I want one now! Howard, you are a class guy.

Sincerely,
Michael D.

Forgot to add the question. Anyone ever seen a "Barcley" steel? There's one on ebay now, and it looks a whole lot like a Stringmaster.
