MIDI volume?

Have any players had any success with controling their volume via MIDI? I just think that this is a way around scratchy pots etc. I have tried setting up my TC Electronic G Major in the 'learn' function, but haven't quite got it accessing the correct CC parameter. I have a feeling that the dynamics would be different, but in my unit you can theoretically set the max volume, the min volume, and where you want it mid position all relative to your pedal position. I think you would have to replace the pot with something like a 10K linear. My point is, has anyone done it? Dave

Yeah, I've done it, and on a few different pieces of gear. The global CC# for volume is #7. It does work, but depending on the gear, it can be usable, or non-usable. The reason is the way that the gear responds to CC7. Some have fast processors that operate smoothly, and others respond in a way that gives a choppy response. My advice is to try it and see how your specific gear responds.
Good luck,
Jay

I have tried this...I have a MIDI controlled mixer; it is problematic in that the MIDI contoller data is 127 increments, and these increments are large enough to create a noticeable audible "zipper" effect when trying to control volume in the way steelers are used to.
also the taper of the fade is not "audio" (logarithmic) it is "linear"

DVA,
Thanks for putting that in the proper form, It's early here and my coffee hasn't kicked in yet!

I'm working on a project to mate a Yamaha BC3A breath controller, Anatek Wind Machine, and some midi effects box to control volume. I'm using a breath controller since I'm a wheelchair user and can't use a pedal. The thing I haven't nailed down is which midi box to use. I know this doesn't directly apply but maybe the idea of an intermediate box, like the Wind Machine in my case, might serve to smooth out an analog input and convert it to midi for you.

I dug this out of the archives because I got my new Boss GS-10 and one of the things I wanted to try is midi vol control. It is 24 bit and I didn't get that zip that is warned about on the peavey equip.
I want to rig a string vol pedal for performance.<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by J J Harmon on 17 February 2005 at 07:34 AM.]</p></FONT>

Has anyone tried a midi foot vol to a POD?

Line 6 uses a method of vol controll on thier foot controllers. I don't know if it is midi or not but there may be a way to adapt this tek to your use.
