Thinking about trying a B/W speaker in my Webb...can anyone tell me how it would compare to a JBL M-30 (D-130 style)? Would the B/W give a more warmer tone? Thanks for your help. |

Hey Bill. You should try it. It'll definitely handle the loud lows better than the JBL. I compared an E130 to a BW in my Webb and the JBL was a bit brighter. I bet you'll find that the BW is fat kind of warm sounding in comparison, but similar. Those alnico JBL's like the one you've got there have a great tone, but they tend to peter out when pushed with that high power. If you don't play all that loud, the JBL may be the sweeter of the two.

Bill, I have tried a BW 1501 replacing the JBL E-130 and another 1203 replacing a E-120 in two different Webb's with great results. As Brad said, they are more responsive on the lower end and not as harsh sounding in the higher range as the JBL's to my ears. The BW's also handle almost anything you can put into them without breaking up.

Great info!! By the way, Brad Sarno is not only a great person (he just got married to a great lady), but he made my old Webb sound so much better after all these years by redoing all the caps etc. His Black Box unit is really something for enhancing your tone!
I think I will experiment putting a B/W in my Webb. There have been several times where is seems the JBL is a tad harsh on the high end and I had to be careful at higher volumes (outside especially). Ont thing about the Webb's is I don't have to worry about losing a little high end as they have plenty...thank you everyone for your wisdom. |

It's funny how I'm hearing about the harsh high end on the Webb using a JBL ..I have an older Webb with a JBL and I don't experience harsh highs at all ....Is a matter of fact , place the Webb next to the Steel King, and the Steel King is WAY briter sounding than the Webb with similar tone settings ....Then again the speaker in the Steel King is made to mimic an old JBL D130 which I think it does an outstanding job of doing ....I wish they sold these speakers seperately ....I'd buy them in a NY minute !!..... ........Jim |

I blowed the JBL in my 1978 Webb, I had a BW speaker in a PV spare so I pulled it and put it in the Webb for that night. I liked the sound so much that I left it there and have been useing it for months now.Just a better sound to my ear. Cleaner. |

Works for me. Sounds cleaner, handles C6 low end better, less harsh on the highs. |
