Is there a difference in in the circuitry of the 65 twin and the same year Showman. I'm thinking of buying a Showman head for the weght factor. also what's the difference between the showman and dual showman.?

I've been playing through a 66 blackface showman these days. I don't know why but it sounds quite different than a 66 Twin to me.

The only difference between the two is the
output transformer. The showman is designed
for an 8 ohm load & the dual's is for a 4 ohm.
There's also a bit less gain in the preamp
section (compared to the Twin) since it lacks
the extra stage that mixes in the reverb
signal. |

had the vibrato channel changed to
reverb, I love it.

| I love my silver face Dual Showman Reverb head. Maybe the black faces are a little warmer, but the silver faces have more clean headroom for steel, and still sound way better than any solid state amp. |

| Hey Bruce, I had my amp Guru put my '71 twin into a head cabinet, infact he built it, and I run the 15" Marrs cab with a K-130. I am getting a second one soon for my D-130. I didn't like the twins weight, and I wanted the amp close by so I could tweek on it with out getting up and going back to it. So now it is right where I can reach it, and I can put a pair of speakers where ever I need on stage, and the head only weighs about 38lbs, and that's with my Profex II installed in the head rack style. Complete job building the cab and tolex was $175. I like it VERY much!! |

| I have a blackface twin head, mounted in a cabinet, that gets plugged into various speaker cabinets. Depending on what's in the cabinet, they all sound very different from each other. |

I think the main difference is the showman doesnt have the reverb stage and this does make a difference in the sound. I play princeton reverbs with a JBL for guitar and once I tried a regular princeton and there was a big difference. I have Dan Torres from Torres engineering do all of my work, do a search he is in calf. but if you want anything done to a tube amp he is unreal. Ive thought about going to a showman head myself because I double on guitar a lot and this may be one amp that could handle both. Get in touch with Dan you will be glad you did

Hey Bruce,
You might want to try and find an empty Fender bassman Top and put the guts of your twin in that, worked well for me, sooooo easy to carry now.

| Except for the differences in the output impedance, they're really the same amp. Also, most Showmans didn't come with reverb. The "Dual" thing refers to having two speakers, the standard Showman had only one. Though the amps are close to identical, the Showman cabinet sounds entirely different than an open-back Twin, due not only to open/closed back thing, but the fact that the larger Showman cab added a lot of bottom end, too. |
