I posted this over in the want ads as well. Anyone know what the nut looked like for one of these, a picture perhaps? It appears to be a 1959 or 1960 model. It's a little rough looking but electronics works. I just need a nut to put it together. Any idea on string gauges?

I think a nut would be very simple to manufacture, and I'm sure a Forumite owner of a 6-stringer would supply the string spacing measurements.

The nut on my 8-string Stringmaster is made of 5/16" steel rod, 2 11/16" wide. Your nut would probably be shorter, but the same diameter.

Ken,

Here is a picture for you...

Grooved Case Hardened Nut
The nut is precision made from case hardened steel rod with circumferential lathe turned string grooves. It is held with two #4 wood screws in holes through the major diameter.

As Herb has said, it is 5/16" diameter.. String grooves are spaced 5/16" apart..

Bore 7/64" holes 1-1/4" apart spaced 5/8" either side of center - counterbore with 1/4" bit 3/16" deep. Use #4 round head wood screws 1" long -- String grooves are on both sides of the holes....Make overall length shorter to fit your guitar.. Use 5/16 dia stainless rod and you'll need cobalt drills for the SS..Good luck...

John

It's hard to believe, but another member had bought a Japanese copy years ago. He is sending the nut to me. I'm still looking for legs and a pickup cover.
