I have come into possession recently of a large Fender speaker cabinet with an 18" speaker in it. The tolex is cafe au lait brown. My question is, is this original equipment, or did someone take an old Showman cab and put an 18 in it? I wasn't aware that Fender produced a stock amp with an 18" speaker. |

It's hardly "vintage"! Eighteen-inch speakers were a pretty rare commodity, and weren't used by Fender in the days of the old brown tolex, though Ampeg used one in their B-18 amp.
What you have there could be an old Bassman or Showman cabinet with a new speaker, or some new R/I cabinet that I'm not aware of yet. I have heard that Fender is now offering an eighteen in one of their (bass?) speaker cabinets, made by Eminence. |

re 18" speakers, there is an add in May 1980 Steelguitarist magazine pp.16 for Peavey Session 500, options are 15", or 18" BW, never saw one. Wonder what 18" would sound like?

Most of the old Rock-Ola and Whirlitzer Juke Boxes back in the 50's used 18" Speakers too. |
