Hey, does anyone have a Williams with a 710 in it? I have a D10 400 series, with the Williams single coils in it. I bought a pair of 710's a while back to put in it, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Haven't been too happy with my tone lately and am really wanting to swap the pickups out this week. I had a Zum with a 710 in it and loved it. Just wondering if anyone has, or has tried the 710 in the Williams.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the Williams at all, I love that guitar. Been playing my GFI at home alot lately tho, and it's making me want to take the single coils out of the Williams.
Thanks a bunch,

I have a '99 Williams with 710's in it and I really like the sound, but I haven't compared them with other pickups on the same guitar. My first Williams had the single coils in it, and the sound was OK, but I got a lot of hum because I play close to my amp. I changed the E9th pickup to a George L's 10-5(? the one with the rotary switch), which took care of the hum, but I can't say it sounded better. I really liked the single coil on C6th.

Hello Bobby,
I have two Williams steels, one D-10 with the stock single coils and an S-10 with a BL 910. I need at least one humbucker steel in NYC because the RF interference is just off the charts here. I have been told the 910 is a bit brighter than the 710, but I am just posting this to say that I am sure you will be happy with the 710 too. Bill Lawrence's pickups sound great to me in the Williams guitar. I would like to add that I prefer the sound of the stock pickup with Franklin strings, and the 910 with GHS Super Steels. Sound real silky and glassy all up and down the neck.
Best,
Gerald[This message was edited by Gerald Menke on 19 April 2004 at 02:21 PM.] |

Hey, I appreciate it guys. I went ahead and swapped the pickups out this morning. Jury still out just yet tho. I like the 710, and it's less noisy, but I'm not convinced that I like it better just yet. But then, I've got family in from out of town so I haven't been able to really lay into it. May have to wait till the gig Saturday night to know.
Thanks for the input.

I had the BL 710's on a Pedalmaster and they sounded great. On my present Pedalmaster I have George L. PF 10's. Sounds great. Jody. |

I have a Williams D-10 with 710s and to my ears the tone is just about perfect. I ordered the gtr w. the 710s , so I don`t know how it would sound with other P/Us.
