What is a Lexicon MPX1 and what does it do? A friend said he got one and loves it. Says
it does a good job of producing big E like
sounds. What would something like that cost?

Thurlon,
An MPX1 is a multi-effects processor enabling you to tie in a combination of effects into one program. It has some great Lexicon reverb patches, chorus (including phaser and flanging), modulation and EQ. I especially like the tap delay feature which allows you to set delay times with song tempos by simply tapping a button. I believe I paid around $700 for it 2 years ago (new).
