I have everything setup just like I want it, but can't figure out how to get my reverb unit to work in the patchbay! I already have my mixer in the patchbay-half-normalled,and out to my soundcard. I'm getting a great signal back to my pc, but how do I setup the reverb unit? I've tried a lot of different settings and sometimes I get a good signal but no reverb! I'm using TRS connectors so I know the cords are right, I just can't figure out how to connect the verb in the patchbay to make it work! |

Hi Denny,
Without knowing any more about your setup I'll take a shot at it. The output of the mixer (either main or monitor out) should be the stereo feed to the line inputs of the sound card. The patch bay will be connected to the aux sends/returns of your mixer so you can patch your processors in and out as needed. Once you patch your external reverb processor into its aux loop on the patch bay you can control the amount of reverb on each mixer channel by adjusting the corresponding aux send on each channel. Depending on your setup you may be able to select whether or not you want the reverb to be included in the main bus outputs. This is the way you can hear reverb while tracking but record dry if you want to do that.
You mentioned that you're using TRS plugs. Does your mixer have 'patch points' or 'insert points' instead of separate ins/outs for each send/return? If so, you will need an insert cable (TRS on one end y-ing out to two mono lines; one for send and one for return). If it has separate ins and outs, just use a standard mono unbalanced cable.

Another thought....
If your patchbay is TRS and your reverb is not, you could be losing the signal due to the different manufacturers wiring their connectors differently. If that's the case, try standard TS cables and see if that works. TRS should be wired as follows: sleeve to ground, tip to - and ring to +. Wired this way, a TS plug inserted into a TRS jack part way will still get the signal, although now it is an unbalanced signal....alot of manufacturers do it this way. That goes hand in hand with inserting a T/S plug in an insert jack part way to get an additional "line out"
Good luck,
Jay |

Thanks Michael and Jay, you were both right! I finally got the wet signal but just for a minute, then it was gone again! I'm using a Edirol ua-20 external soundcard and I was wondering if maybe that's where the signal is being lost. My mixer is a Eurorack (Behringer)MX1804X with just aux&FX send and returns. It has it's own effects but I just had to have this Lexicon reverb! I can't even get a wet signal by going out of the soundcard into the reverb and back out into the soundcard! If you have anymore suggestions, you can e-mail me at dfast326@aol.com
Michael, seems like I should know you cause I've been in Nashville a long time! I used to play keyboard for Rex Allen jr. and piano at a club called Gabe's for years. If you were ever there, I was the blind guy in a wheelchair behind the piano next to Big Jim Murphy on steelguitar. Thanks for all the help. |
