What is a Quad Reverb worht and does anyone use one? They are a Twin with four twelve inch speakers. I have a chance to get one.

Sounds like you will need a fork lift. Personally, for steel, I had much rather have a Dual Showman head and a 15" speaker in a separate cabinet. You can get 2x15" cabinets too. That would no doubt sound awesome, but again, you're getting into fork lift territory.

I think they are probably worth 120 pounds..US..

I played thru one of these for a short time many years back..we are talking " BULK" WEIGHT" here...Even when I could lift one I still couldn't !

Larry... The Quad is the BEST sounding Steel amp I have ever heard. I had one for a short time and got rid of it to buy a Showman head and a 1x15 cabinet...BAD move.!!! If you can get a deal on the Quad,GRAB it... What a HUGE sound! They are VERY heavy. Keep that in mind!... They are running $500-600 . If its clean and you can find one cheaper and have BIG muscles,you will fall in love with the tone. If you don't want it let me know.. Larry, If I were you, I'd get the Quad. I've seen different prices on some of these good vintage amps.No doubt, the tone,and the reverb are clean,and lushous sounding.

This is a little off subject but has anyone ever played his steel through a speaker cabinet with four 12" speakers in it? Maybe a Marshall or Peavey? I always thought it would be fun to try.

The 'Quad' is NOT a TWin with 4 10's . . . it's a PRO REverb with 4 10's. On the day the tubes are new it's a 50 watt amp. After that, it's about 35 watts or so.

You've got it mixed up with a super. A quad is indeed a 4x12 twin.

It is a Twin with four twelves. I just brought it home. It has the Fender speakers with the round holes. I think they might be Oxfords or Utah's. They are not Jensens, they have oblong cut outs.

Awesome amp! About 95 lbs. to cart around, though. One big benefit is great dispersion (both to the player and the audience) without having to tilt it back, or set it on a stand or chair.

Just add some wheels and kick butt!

It has wheels already It has been setting a long time. I will probably go through it and sell it. It sounded good with the 85 Les Paul Custom too. Tomorrow I will try it with my Carvin TL-60(3-P/U Tele), my 76 Les Paul Custom and steel.

If you get the Quad Reverb, I can make
you a head cabinet for the chassis.
It would look like a Bandmaster Reverb Head.
One more option, I could build you
a 2/12 combo cab, like a Twin Reverb.
That 4/12 is a monster.

A band mate of mine has a Quad and he's not sure whether to restore it or sell it. I'm not personally interested in it though I know it would be a hoss of a steel amp. Unreasonably heavy.

Back in the good ol' '70s I used to hear Freddie King at the Armadillo play through two Quad Reverbs. Pretty awesome sound. I guess it was Fender's answer to the Marshall amp. Why they didn't break it into a head and speaker cab is a mystery. The Quad wasn't on the market all that long. I guess they made them only for 5 years, if that long.

Rick, I have a real nice Vibrasonic that I don't use because of the weight and I use a Midiverb-4 that is a line level unit. If the Fenders had an effects loop or reamp out / poweramp in I would consider going that route but no more htan I play I will just drag the Nashville 400 around. Looking forward to seeing you at Gary's steel show.
