Who makes a good tube amp head at about 50-100 watts that can give a good clean punchy sound for lead guitar? |

Carvin has a new SX200H 100w head. A lot of the Rock'nRoll guitarists are using this series of amps from Carvin. You can see them on-line at www.carvin.com.

I was looking on Mesa/Boogie's web site, and Riviera website. Anyone use any of these amps? They make a all tube head, one at 50,and one at 100 watts. |

I've been using Mesa Boogie amps for about 20 years. The new F-50 looks like a winner, but I haven't tried it.
My favorite was the Mark II-B, which was made in the early 1980's when I worked at Mesa. They've made a lot of different amps since then. I've owned about half a dozen Boogies, and I've liked all of them.

Lots of choices, huh. Let us know what your choice is. Carvin is top-notch, tho. |

Jeff, I'd love to have a 100 watt Dual Showman Reverb head, but Fender doesn't make them any longer.
Larry, I didn't know that Carvin made your amp in a head version. They only have one head, beside the Legacy that's tube that I seen on their web-site.It seems like it would work OK. Good price too. |

The Traynor Mark 3 heads/combo-amps sound great, are 100 watts, and can be had for $200-350. I've been using them since 1973. |

I believe that the Carvin SX200H is a solid state head.

Sorry about that. I missed the part about "Tube" amp. The Carvin SX-200H is a solid state amp but it does have "Tube emulation". You can read about it on their website. |

Hi Mike, Does the "Classic 50" Break up quick,or is there enough headroom to get a good clean punchy tone at higher volume levels without distorting? How about a nice fat jazz tone? |
