This may be a dumb question, but...what is the function of the booster jack on the back panel? Is this an input, or an output?

That's not a dumb question as I have had several players inquire about this jack. The BOOSTER jack is an output that can be used for connecting to any input that can accept a 1 volt nominal audio signal. It's called a BOOSTER output as it is most commonly used to drive the input of external BOOSTER amplifiers.

Hope that this helps.

Thanks, Mike. Does that also mean that it's intended for use as a "pre-amp out" to a PA channel, as an alternative to mic-ing the amp?

Yes, it's a usable preamp out, but why use it? When have you ever heard a DI output sound better than a miked speaker? Isn't the speaker an essential part of the voice of the instrument?

Brad, you're absolutely right -- especially if it's an old JBL. But sometimes you get caught short and have to rig something up in a hurry...
