I'm borrowing one of these and find it to be a great sounding amp for steel, can hardly imagine a nicer tone than this, better than my reissue Twin with a 1501, would the Peavey (Classic 50?) version of this amp give me the same (or close) tone, anyone using these 4/10's tube amps out there, any good on the job, is it the tube rectifier making this thing get that tone? OK I'm outa here...going to eBay

I've got an original '59 4x10 Bassman &
the tone is outrageous . I'd look into a
reissue Fender Bassman rather than a Peavey.
The Hot Rod DeVille's (with 4- 10's or
2-12's) are good also.

Those old Bassman amps with the 4 Jensen speakers were GREAT. I still have a Fender Twin reverb origianl black face with 2- 12" JBL's.

Here I go again...Check out the Traynor YCV80Q. 4x10, all tube, about 90 watts, and a complete tone monster. Less money than Fender, and much better warranty.

Any Fender prior to CBS taking over is a good product. They'll never be another Twin or Bassman like those . . so you may be right on yours.

A Peavey Classic 50 is a good sounding amp, but it uses 4 EL84 tubes rather than 2 6L6 power tubes, so it will sound a good deal different. The Classic 50 is also set up in the preamp gain stages more for rock and roll than the bassman.

well I just bought a Bassman 100....4 6L6 output tubes, with the bottom, it had 2 SRO 12s and 2 Fender stock speakers, it was in the local paper, i don't know a thing about these amps, but it sounds good through a 1501 BW, I'm gonna sell the speakers and keep the head, retube it, caps etc, but still looking for a Deville or Bassman with 4 10s, the way the Bassman 4/10 sounded I was sure someone had to be using it for steel

I have a 4-10 Bassman reissue, slightly tweaked. Usually it's my guitar amp, but occasionally it's expedient to use it for steel (i.e. I left it in the car). It kicks *ss for my non-pedal playing, but find it lifeless for pedal steel, and it's not just because it doesn't have reverb. So, as the saying goes, YMMV.
