Here is a link to a good discussion on Dig cameras.
I have a Nikon coolpix 800 2mp that I have had for a couple years,had good results,did a few tech articles for Mustang Monthly that turned out very well. Just recieved a new coolpix 4500 4mp that I hope will be a worthwhile upgrade.
If/when you decide which one you want, go to Etronics.com and look at their prices,also go to the respective mfg website and check on rebates,I did and found a $200 rebate on the 4500,$517-$200rebate = not bad!!!!!!!

| Well, I looked at both of the cameras the Vivitar and the Kodax resently. Both cameras are fine and great intro cameras. I purchased the Vivitar clearly on a price rating over the Kodax and have been very happy with it. Do yourself a favor and get extra memory, and a AA battery charger. I just love the simple use and it takes great photos. Get at least 2. mega pixels and you'll be fine. You can go to Amazon.com and look up the camera's ratings by owners. |

Thanks guys for the input....I bought the kodak cx4300 3.2 mp, only a 2X zoom but that is enough for what I use mostly...couldn't find any rebates though  . These are the way to go great pictures and easy to use, I love that. BTW I did get the charger and 64 extra memory.

If you have a Compusa computer store in your area,watch their adds because they,and Best Buy often run specials on cards and readers,also there is a reader that plugs in the USB port to transfer pictures,if you are running WinXP,thats all you need.That is quicker than using the cable that comes with the camera.
Also you can transfer data with the card that comes with the camera,you treat it like a 3 1/2" floppy if there is a reader on both PCs.

Hey fellows.. got a Kodak digital 3500 two years back and I looove it. It has camera base with usb feed and comes with cd rom to get you started..Has great programs that are easy to follow and I am running thru the stubborn ME system with celeron. I don't work for Kodak but I do love their camera and now it is less than what I shelled out...check it out on WEB...my .02 thanks

I have the DX-4900 model I bought for my wife for Christmas. It has been good so far, and can do everything I need. The docking station is nice. It comes with a rechargeable battery pack, and a hookup to the computer that really simplifies download. I believe your model can use this as well. I got mine at Sam's club, the last one they had in the cabinet (not on display).
I asked the attendent to give me a price, and it was 76% off due to its being discontinued there, and sitting for a while.
Yes, I bought it.

Digital Photography review ( www.dpreview.com ) has more in-depth digital camera reviews than anyone could possibly read, and good sample photos from each model reviewed. I believe it's a UK site. Pretty honest reviews, too, unlike the photo mags, where every review is overwhelmingly positive (can't offend the advertisers, y'know). Well worth checking out for anyone considering a digital camera purchase.

| I have a Nikon Cool-Pix 950, which is a 3 mega-pixel. I have been very happy with it. Here are a couple of suggestions: Buy the rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride batteries instead of the normal nicad rechargable ones. Get 2 sets so you always have fresh ones ready to go. I was never much of a fan of rechargeable batteries, but these nickel hydride ones have been wonderful. Don't drop a digital camera! I did and it was a $200.00 repair bill. Also, the higher the mega-pixel, the more memory it takes up on a card, which means the less pictures you get. It is my understanding that unless you want photos larger than 8 x 10, you don't need anything more than a 2 pixel. |
