I like the JBL, I have but for "Loud and Clear" if you can find an EVM 15, they are very efficient and flat. The JBL has a little flavor of its own.

My current favorite for tone is an E-130 JBL, but for all-around no problem performance and tone/value ratio, I'd have to go with a Black Widow 1502-4.
I'm a professional musician playing in loud bands and I can't be running back and forth to the recone shop all the time. Therefore, the Peavey.

For old speakers I like JBL D-130's and I also use a Fane 12 in my Deluxe that sounds great. For new speakers I am happy with
Celestion Classic 80's.

Ditto on the BW's for loud band situations. I've always thought the BW's had nearly as good tone as the JBL's of various flavors and twice the durability. It'd have to get awful loud to blow one of these new BW Sallow Basket speakers.

I have just received a 12 inch Alnico Tone Tubby hempcone speaker for my MusicMan 112 RD combo and these are the best sounding speaker ever imo. I have tried most brands, Celestion, JBL,Weber, etc... and the TT is the smoothest most responsive of them all. The guys at TT tell me they will be doing a 15inch 200 watt rated hempcone ceramic magnet speaker that will be awesome for PSG....IP

Today I had the pleasure of hearing a great steeler play my Sho-Bud though my Hartke bass rig. 350w w/ 2.5 reflex cabinet with 2 metalcone 10's and a metal cone tweeter. I couldn't be happier with the sound.
I will add a TubeFX and never look back.
PS Herb, we listened to your Rancho Rhythm Roundup while driving him back after the session. Nice CD!
[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 20 April 2003 at 04:50 PM.]

The combination of a Celestion G12 Century 12" and a JBL E-120. I'm a total believer in mixing speakers....
If I had to choose one it would be the Celestion (but I would prefer a pair of them in a THD cabinet).

Ok CB. The hot cat is Lionel Wendling.
As you already knew.
He's a real great player and though we didn't have time for a "leçon" for me, I did learn a lot from him in a very short time. The best was hearing my Sho-Bud in "great hands".
We had a little jam with my local bluesman buddy Bob Smutz on strat. and me on bass. We put on some 8-32 measure midi drum files through the studio monitors, real loud, and
jammed funk, latin, shuffle and swing tunes for 2 hours.
Lionel is one of the last, if not the last, full time professional steelers left in France. And the way he played it is clear why.
Other than the amp's fan being a bug a low volumes, I was very very pleased with the Hartke's sound.
These metal cone speakers are very crisp but not strident and since they are meant to give a bass a great over all sound, I thought they should also handle a boowah as well.
Yep! top to bottom and nice smooth sound.
And not a hint of running out of cone travel.
I didn't get Lionel's comment about them. But he didn't complain about the amp, only the ancient DeArmond pedal... and that I expected.
It wouldn't be a bad idea for a steeler to at least have a listen to them, especially a C6 player. They can be bought as replacements, so you can put them in any cabinet.
I play a 28 fret, 6 string Fodera bass with a low B note way down there. I have been very happy with this small 2-10 w/tweeter cabinet for that. I'm glad I can have one amp for the PSG, the A-jr mandolin and the bass for any gig.
[This message was edited by David L. Crowbear, all those steelers are great and really nice persons (and that is the most important to me, soul is in the playing, and an asshole also shines through by his playing
)
Lionel has the gift to make every guitar and amp sound good, try the Hartke on different guitars and situations. If it works for you,let it be your amp!
good luck, Johan

I like the JBL K-130 for that loud, clear sound. It has a scoop in it, but it's easy to EQ to counter that if you want more midrange.
