I'm looking for a creative way to mount my MosValve 500 in a rack that would allow the proper air flow around the unit. Both sides of the unit and the bottom have large air vents that should not be obstructed. I'm concerned that a standard rack box would not let the unit breathe enough. I would also like a convenient way to access the cables. Any good ideas????
Thanks,
Steve |

I have one on top in a SKB plastic 4-space with a G-Force and an Evans pre underneith, neither of which generates much heat. So far its been fine. I don't have it cranked beyond 4 or 5 so it's not having to work too hard. |

Me too -- no problems with mine and it's mounted with a Digitech 2112 with tubes, a JuiceGoose, and a Microverb in a six space. I don't use it very often anymore (not much call to blow down a gymnasium ), but when I did, it never got more than warm over a 4 hour gig.
If you're really concerned, just get a rack with one or two extra spaces and have an empty one above and/or below.

Always put the hottest stuff on top and then leave a venting space. Anything with tubes needs space all around it, and not too close to the other units so it's radiant heat doesn't affect them.
You can add some mini computer fans running on 9 volts and a power block at the top to excite a bit more air flow. This can be good at the left and right corners to help the air come up the sides of the units and out the back.
And also at the bottom of the rack to bring in cooler air before it flows upwards.[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 18 March 2003 at 02:27 AM.] |

Thanks for the feedback. Hey Larry; I too have a Digitech 2112 that I run with the MosValve and I really like it. How heavy is your rack setup?

So heavy I hardly ever tote it anymore. But you're right, it's a killer sounding rig. The combination of the tubes in the preamp and the 'tuby' MOS/FET in the power amp sounds great. I don't find I need that kind of power anymore.
I prefer this
