Hi,
I picked up a lap steel last week from a junk shop near by. It's not branded, but seems reasonable quality: 6 string, two pickup. Looked really skanky, but cleaned up very well in the pub which just a tissue and some vodka.
Anyway, it was fitted with new flatwoundsfor sale ... is this usual? I have to say, I like the smooth slide transitions, but the clean sound, while deep and jazzy , is a little dull. Cranked, ithough, t sounds better and fuller than any Les Paul, or any other standard electric.
At the moment I'm just cranking out blues in open G, but am thinking aboiut going C6. Now, I'm not that fast a learner (I've had a pedal steel for 18 months now and just about manage Lay Lady Lay and a couple of Byrds numbers) .
Is it a particularly hard tuning? Is there a tuning where I can get an approximation of the C6 sound (same intervals) without having to restring?
Cheers
Ally
