In the event the topic of "strings" has been touched upon previously, please disregard this post; however, I've been wanting to purchase strings for my Rick that are EITHER Gibson Black Diamond; or, the most suitable string in lieu of Black Diamond.
I'm continually informed that there are only five or six mfrs. of strings these days and yet the brands I've tried are lousey for steel guitar. I want the six string set-up as JB has used for years and the generic strings now being marketed just don't seem to cut-it for my ear.
Suggestions? Please and thanx.

Ray,
Have you tried Jagwire nickel strings? I've never had a bad one. You can order any custom string gauges you want and they'll be there in about 2 days by express mail.
Also keep in mind that Jerry Byrd used the same gauges on his first and second strings and maybe other pairs of strings as well. He said he did this because it sounded better on single-note solo work, there was less variation in hs sound that way.
My experience in past years has frightened me completely away from Black Diamond strings. At one time they were an OK string but later on they lowered the quality to the level of junk. Too much tonal inconsistency between wound strings of different gauges, and they were the only strings I've ever found that wouldn't fret true right out of the package. Maybe they're better now, but I won't waste any more money to find out.

You can get Jagwires by the gauge from our Forum Catalog Strings page. I've been using them lately and I like them a lot.
