Which pickup is a prefered replacement on the late 70s/early 80s model MSA?
Birdseye, lacquer and wood neck. Thinking of upgrading my old 1976 U-12
Thanks
Dennis

Well.... a lot of people recommend the George L's E-66 pickup, HOWEVER.....

I personaly favor the Jerry Wallace TrueTone pickups myself. They tend to have more sparkling highs, and fatter low's... and don't have that annoying midrange hump that all humbuckers tend to have. Not to mention, the price is a bit cheaper.

The George L's is humbucking, while the TrueTone is single coil. The noise is really not an issue since the picked notes are generally much louder than the hum, and when you are not playing, you generally roll off the volume pedal anyways. And Jerry has a great return policy -- if you dont like it, return it!...

I have a Bill Lawrence 710 on the C6 neck of my Classic SS, the E9 neck has a 705. The 705 seems a bit brighter, but they both sound really good.

I noticed in the latest info from Carter guitars, that they are offering the Wallace TrueTone pickups (not reflected on the order form etc, but it was mentioned in a letter that accompanied the info they sent me within the past month... so apparently the wrod is out on the street about wallace pickups

Dennis:
I put in a GL 10-1 in my MSA when I had it.
Sounded great, How ever I think the Jerry Wallace True Tone is the best choice & the price is right. I just put one in my Derby
& love it. Also the BL- 710 is a great pick
up. That would be my 2nd choice for wood body
Steel. Good Luck.
