I have three Peavey amps, a Session 400, an older Nashville 400, and a Bandit 75. All sound pretty good, but the best sounding setup I have is my "cheapo" rack outfit. It's a Profex II, a Rolls RA2200A power amp, and two Peavey 12" Scorpion Speakers, in Sonic Cabs.

What I'm wondering is: Does anyone else get good results using power amps and speakers that are a little out of the ordinary? I think that the Profex is a key element here, perhaps it can make anything sound good.

I'm kind of a gear head so I have all kinds of setups. I'm also kind of long in the tooth so I have been accumulating my "stuff" over quite a few years. I have an original Twin Reverb with JBL speakers, a couple of Nashville 400s, a ProFex II and DPC 750 setup, but the one I use most is a rack setup with mostly Tube Works components in it. I like the versatility a rack setup affords. I recently added a Sonic Maximizer and a Lexicon MPX 200 to it. So much equip., so little time!

I went from a Boogie/Webb stack to a rack system. It took me a year or two to get rack components that could compete, tone-wise, with what I was used to. Just tossing together components in a rack doesn't guarantee good sound.

Even today, my Williams sounds better with the combo amps than it does with the rack. The rack was developed using my Sierra, and it doesn't seem to 'match' the overtones of the Williams as well.

I'll vouch for the rack system. Mine features at TubeWorks preamp, a GK micro amp for the power amp and (mostly) Boss stomp boxes. Outshines any SS combo amp I've owned and that's been a bunch. Pretty close to my old Fender (Vibrosonic Reverb) amp sound. The portability is a huge plus.

My rack equipment consist of:

1)"Peavey Profex II
into a

2) Alesis 3630 Compressor
into a

3) DOD 430Q EQ unit
into a

4) Alesis RA-100 Reference Amp.
into a

5) 2 "Peavey" 112e speaker cabs.

Now I haven't found anything that can beat this for live performances. If I feel that I don't need to really to truck a lot of speaker cabs and such with me on a gig, I just use a "Peavey" Nashville 400 head with a "Boss DD-3" EFX unit into one 112e speaker cab.

I am using a Walker S.S.Pre-Amp w/Alesis QuadraVerb into the Power- Amp. sections of my two Nashville 1000's for the best sound that I've ever had, and have never had anyone to tell me of anything lacking in my sound! With all due respect, it's not all up to the equipment! I hear many, many great sounds with a large variety of equipment! Everyone carry on! I am totally "Peavey-ized". ProFex II, DPC-1000,& 2 B/W 12" spkrs.,in some modified PV "wedge" monitor cabinets. Luv it.

Hi guys, Ive used peavey equipt so long i dont know if id know what to do with any other stuff. I love it, its tuff and it seems to always work for me. Im still using a profex 2 a dpc 757 and two 15 in blackwidows in pacific cabinets. My guitar is a 98 Sierra universal. Boy I like that guitar just fine. also I have a Sho Bud super pro that dont get much use. I also have a practically new nashville 400 that hasnt been used hardly at all since i have been using the rack system.

Bill try the Peavey DPC1400, and get rid of all of that rack space. And for you tuber`s try the Peavey Tube Sweetener.
