| Hello to all Speedy fans. I just wanted to let you know I just found a new "Live" radio transciption CD with Speedy West featuring Jimmy Bryant called "There's Gonna Be A Party" on the Jasmine lable. Includes 29 songs introduced by "Tennessee Ernie Ford. I'm not sure if it's new to y'all, but I just found it last week. I just wanted to pass it along to any Speedy fans that haven't heard it. It does have songs we all know of, but all are live and some duets usually played with Jimmy are Speedy by himself. So he really takes off on them. I highly recomend it if you don't have one. Hiya Bobby, I mentioned that set to Speedy a while back, I have no idea whether he's actually had a chance to hear it or not.
I still haven't got around to getting a copy, but I hear it's good, and now with your rave I fear that it's a must!
By the by, did you do a lot of sessions in the 1970s, 1980s, etc? |

Yes speedy has heard the albom, I reviewed it for Western Swing Monthly a few months ago and Speedy was kind enough to add a few comments about the tracks. I'm at work at the moment and don't have the magazine to hand but as I remember it he said that he
went into each session blind, had no idea what they were gonna be playing till a minute or so beforehand, Now THAT'S a musician! |

| Steve, I've heard that a lot of their Capitol recordings were done that way too. Seems Jimmy refused to play the same solo twice. (That's a REAL jazz musician) lol. Jason, I've never done any session work on steel, but in the '70's & '80's a lot of it on bass guitar, bass fiddle, nothing on 6 string elctric guitar till the '80's. Jason, do you know Sam Conamo ? He moved to St.Louis, MO from Australia to take peddle steel guitar lessons at Scotty's Music. He moved back many years ago and I'd like to get in touch with him . I still have a music book he leant me that I'd like to return to him. Thank you both for your replies. Bobby |

| Does anyone know a source for some of the chords Speedy and Jimmy were using on the "Stratosphere Boogie" album? I'm hearing some aug. and diminished chords thrown in there but I would like to know some more ideas. |

| Hi Adrian, I remember the chord progression and acitate record being printed in Guitar Player magazine in the late 80's. I was only interested in the guitar part back then, I didn't play steel yet. I wish I could find that magazine. I know it's in a box some where. I'll try to find the issue and send you a copy by email. Bobby |
