I've been looking at some recording mixers on the net. I've notice some have external power source. What exactly does that power, mic preamps, lights, etc? What would be the advantages or disadvantages of an external power source?

Thanks,
Ken

The seperate power supply powers the whole mixer. The purpose of a seperate power supply is to have less noise. It keeps the 60HZ AC away from the mixer and therefore you don't have the hum. They are usually a lot quieter.
