I'm trying to take the audio off one of my videos and put it onto a minidisc (for my own use, of course). But the signal seems to be too hot. I ran an RCA plug out of the VCR outputs (actually only one side worked at all; mono; that's ok) to the miniplug mic input of the minidisc recorder. Signal was waaay too hot and distorted, even if I turned down all the volumes I could find. Am I gonna have to buy a mixer at Radio Shack to make this work?
Thanks,
Jimbeaux

Jim,

The output from your vcr is at line level..waaaaayyyyy too hot for a mic input. Do you have a line level input on the recorder? That is what you would need to do. One other thought is perhaps a 20-30db pad across the vcr output to cut down the level of the signal. You might also run into impedance problems as well. Actually a mixer won't do it either. Check out radio shack and see if they have something that will take a line level signal and convert it to mic level.

Regards,

Jim, my minidisc has a line in and it worked just fine. I have just tried it. The mic input did not work way to hot. Hope this helped.

Thanks, guys. Mine only has the mic input, plus an "optical" line input, which does not take a straight audio signal. So I guess I'll have to see what Radio Shack has for some kind of signal attenuator.
Thanks for the input (pun intended!)

You'll lose your stereo
(I know, run it through TWO volume pedals)

The volume pedal did the trick! Thanks Bob! Mono is fine for this application.
