I'm using an older large cabinet FEV 500 in church. IT sounds great but when I turn the reverb on I get this medium to high pitch drone that is very loud. Other than that the amp sounds great. Any ideas?
God Bless,

Check out the reverb can. Sounds like you might have a broken wire in there. If so you can fix them, just be careful. Good Luck. Whip

Steve,
I had something similar...Sometimes you will get this depending on the location of the reverb pan....I fixed mine by takeing the reverb pan, and putting the right end were the left end should be...In other words, take the pan, and turn it around....The wires will be screwed up looking, and you may not have enought length on the wires to do this, but the noise from my reverb stopped immediatly !!
I hope this helps you ...It really sounds strange, but my amp went from a noisy reverb to a quiet running amp....Jim |

Steve,
I've quit using mechanical reverbs altogether and just use a Boss RV-3 digital delay/reverb unit which is much quieter. |

I remember reading once that on older reverb tanks their proximity to the speaker magnet can cause the metal tank to become somewhat "magnetized" and causes all sorts of weird things to happen. I have also heard that if you put a piece of double sided carpet tape to the tank, that the resonance will change and noise problem will go away. No personal experience with this, but seems reasonable to me.

Steve, have you asked Bill Dearmore about this? Bill is or was a dealer so maybe he can help. BTW, we have a hawaiian gig coming up in your vocale sometime next month. I'll let you know as soon as I can. It would be great to see ya again. CC |
