Hi Gang,
I just bought a Session 500 amp from a friend. I have never used one before and I have some questions.
1. any sugestions on settings to get me going?
2. What is the crossover for?
3.what is paramid for?
4. There is a footswitch that goes with this amp. What does it do and do I need to get one?
5. I understand Peavey only made this amp 1 year (I'ts the small cabnet) about when were these made?
Thanks in advance for all your help to another newbie

In my opinion, the 500 is one great sounding amp, but almost impossible to get set right. If you do a search under name Tony Dingus in this category, you will find a May 26th post where he answers the same question that I asked back then. It is the setting that Jeff Newman put out back when the amps had just come out. These settings really work for me. Good Luck.

Granted, the Session 500 is a heavy amplifier. But, those who own and use this amp swear by the sound that they get. This amp was manufactured from 1980-1985. The small cabinet was manufactured briefly before changing over to the taller version, but there are no records of how many of the smaller sized Sessions were manufactured.

The crossover is the active type. When using an external power amp in addition to the internal 300 watt power amp, a "bi-amped" system could be achieved.

The PARAMID control works in conjunction with the SHIFT control and helps "fine tune" the critical mid range frequencies.

A footswitch is still available for this amp and can be purchased through the Parts Department here at Peavey(601)483-5365. The item number for this switch is #5448 and the description is a 3 button(reverb defeat, string defeat, phase defeat). However, the original Session 500 came with a handcontroller with the same features, except the reverb was variable.

Hope this helps and thanks for choosing Peavey products for your performances.

I hear that the original "footswitch clipped on the leg of your guitar. Is this true? it would be cool to have reverb control right at my fingertips. Does anyone have one of the originals laying around? Im still confused about the Paramid control it seems to adjust the mids but also seems to act something like the "shift" control. im gettin' kind of a "bite" that I would like to calm down just a little bit. I have heard several 500's live and I know its not the amp i'm just not doing something right.
Anyone who wants to complain about the weight of this amp shoul carry my Blanton D-10 in an anvil flight case
Sorry about all the questions. Thanks in advance for the help guys.
