I have a friend who plays with the Peavey Wedge. He has for years and has access to many many amps..However,, he had a elcetronics guys go completely through the Amp and check for "cold solder" joints and re-touch all the connections..that was a few years ago..and he just loves it..We all know thye do take a beating throwing amps in and out of a truck to all these playing jobs. So I can't say that...this was fault of not of the "wedge"..or just all amps in general.
Hope this helps..

I have had 8 pairs of Peavey amps since '82, and they all worked well with steel guitar. I had two Renouns w/15" BW's, however; there is no reason not to use two 12" Scorpion speakers! It's only a matter of which you like best, the sound of one 15" or the sound of two 12"'s! You actually move more air with two 12's. I believe two 12's gives you a broader fuller sound, although I use one 15" in each of my amps! John

I don't think you would be sorry buying a renown, I wouild and I don't need one but the one I did have (the first ones, 160 watts, 2 scorpions) I loved, thought it had a better sound than my 500 at lower volumes, it did not have the send and return for effects, but that is easily added, still check want ads, best part they aren't much money

I got a Renown for the weekend and it was awesome ,all the band were talking about the great sound I had,I used a dd5 delay pedal in the effects loop and I didn't have to change any settings for regular guitar.I had the Master volume at "7" it was a big venue.
My own amp is in for repair ..A peavey Triumph 60.I don't know at this stage if I'll keep it or not especially after playing through the Renown!!

Bill, I bought a 2x12 Renown when they first came out years ago, but I still had my Twin as well. I really liked the sound of the Renown with both my Tele' and the Steel but...the main channel which I used for the Tele' had a ton more gain than the second channel which I used for the Steel. I never had that extra power on the bandstand with the renown using the second channel for the Steel. I had been hoping to find an amp that had the classic peavey tone and could use it for both the Tele and Steel without swapping cables and all that stuff..For me, it didn't happen. I went back to the Twin which had a 15" JBl which I guess in the scheme of things is a very good solution for players who double on guitar and steel and don't want to keep swapping things around. I sold the renown.
Considering you have a session 400 with a 15" BW you have a great amp to judge any Steel amp by.
This was many years ago and perhaps things have changed . I now carry a Nashville 1000 and a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I am thinking of trying the Peavey Classic 2x12 50 as I hear great things about that amp.
Just my thoughts.

Tony,
Was in our local music store today(windowshopping)had this amp demo'ed,glad I left my checkbook home.I would realy like to hear this one with a PSG,if I played 6string,I would have to have one.It has the headphone jack that bypasses the speakers, also all the bell and whistles.
