back in 1952 I had a catalog from Carvin [somewhere in California], where you could buy a kit for building your own Steel, Guitar, or Amp etc. I was just curious if that company was the same as the Carvin you hear some of today. If so they must be one of the longest lasting of all. I remember Joe Maphis, and Larry Collins endorsing them>

Jim. That is the same Carvin. They were in Escondito. I had a Carvin. My first guitar. All Cables. 8 floor and no knees. I eventualy added one. I dont know if they still make steels But if they do save your money and get a good guitar. Just MHO. |

Yep, same company! Carvin used to be the low-buck guitars and amps...very plain and inexpensive. They sold direct from the factory, but were never widely accepted. Today, they sell much more stuff, and some of it's quite "high end". Sadly we see very little of it here on the east coast. I haven't seen or played Carvin guitar since the '60s. At one time, they even made pedal steels. |

I was playing in a band where the lead player was using a Carvin BelAir combo tube amp. Monstrous sound. I want one myself someday.

Try the link! http://www.carvin.com
I recently bought a Carvin Bolt and love it. My first new regular guitar, made just east of where I live and I can't beat the price.[This message was edited by Del Rangel on 01 October 2002 at 10:34 AM.] |

A few months ago, I ordered a new LB75 5 string bass to my specs and a new bass amp from Carvin and they are beyond anything I have seen from other companies. Quality is top notch. They really make the best. |

We use a lot of their PA stuff and it's pretty high quality gear for a reasonable price. I remember the Joe Maphis clan (Joe/Rose/Jody) were big endorsers in the late 50s and 60s and I'd always thought their stuff was cheaply made, but the PA gear we have works great. I haven't tried their instrument amps, but I wasn't impressed with their 60s vintage guitars all those years ago.

I have a Dekley D-12 with George L 5-way pickups and I wired in a Carvin active/passive electronics module. It did a lot to improve the sound of the guitar. |

From my personal experience with Carvin's raw speakers I feel they are of very high quality in relation to their cost. The heavy duty 15 inch woofer speaker they sell is excellent and has been working very well in both my bass guitar cabinet and our bands PA subwoofer system for many years IMHO |
