I have an old Peavey LTD 400 I bought "used", probably 20 years ago. The speaker had been changed out when I aquired it. It is a 15" Orange cast basket with a Hugemongus Black magnet. It is one HEAVY sucker! The sticker says: "FENDER"
"Profesional Series Loud Speakers"
"P.S.15" "8 ohm" "Cerwin Vega" It has always sounded Great for me, I just always wondered what it might have come out of?Anyone have any idea?

I know it came out of some kind of "FENDER" Amp.
I just don't know what kind or model.

Being a 15", I would guess it came out of a bass amp. I have a 1972 Fender Twin with two PS-12's in it. In the late 60's, Fender offered optional speakers for their amps. At that time they were using Guass speakers. Somewhere in the early 70's they switched to Cerwin-Vegas.

I think they used those in Silverface Vibrosonics too. |

The Black Widow 1501-4 "shallow basket" speaker is available and is specifically voiced for steel guitar and fiddle use. The item number is #00027010 and can be purchased through your Peavey dealer. Here is our dealer locator link from the Peavey website.

I'd go with the 1501SB and put that puppy on Ebay! It is most likely out of a Vibrosonic! You only getting about 130 watts RMS in an 8 ohm load. You gain more headroom (200 watts) and get a great sound with the 1501SB. I have put several in old Session 400s that I have restored, they sound awesome! |
